Safety food in our country
There’s no doubt our nation has been the most booming country in the world. In the past ten years, the GDP index of this nation has been keeping almost in two digits. Needless to say,
For decades, we have devoted ourselves to increase our agricultural products by developing transgene, an anti-season technology and others. They have been widely used in crops which indeed have helped us against hunger. But in the mean time, numerous illegal additives have been used as well. Unfortunately most of them are harmful and poisonous. We have been facing an unprecedented panic for food safety.
San Lu Group, one of the former Chinese famous milk enterprise, was found adding high level of melamine in their milk products, which had caused thousands of infants caught kidney stone, hundreds died. As a result, the senior managers and related staffs were put in jail, the company was closed afterwards. San Lu also revealed there were not the only one doing this, Meng Niu and Yi Li which are regarded as the first and second biggest milk enterprise did the same thing. People started to be afraid of drinking milk and began buying milk overseas, a disaster for the milk industry of this country.
Used cooking oil, which is supposed to be thrown as rubbish but is always found in the restaurant, exists in the dishes we order. Since the cost is only one fifth of the regular cooking oil, some owners of the restaurants intend to use it. They also prefer selling the food waste to those people who can filter and recycle the oil. This is very dangerous, the recycled oil contains Lead (Pb) and aflatoxin. Pb will cause liver cancer and aflatoxin is ten times toxic than arsenic.
The worse is at this moment there is no such reliable method to test it. It was reported within the next two years scientist will have invented precise test machine. Before that I’m afraid the best way we can do is cook at home.
Right now, more and more food scandals are around us, threatening people’s health. Government has punished some illegal manufacturers but this is not enough. We would like to thank the effort of the media who exposed most of these illegal activities. As a citizen, we can also help the law enforcer to track down and stop this crime by reporting who are suspected doing these.
